A brief note for any readers interested in stories about the fae.
I’ve noticed that contemporary fantasy has an upward trend in content relating to the fae: arbitrary, unpredictable, powerful.
While this is a little-developed thought, I do briefly wish to wonder aloud as to whether that is because it feels familiar.
After all, a world in which many people’s best chance of access to luxury, prized experiences, or even essentials like medical treatment or education relies on the arbitrary kindness of strangers.
After all, begging social media for help or joy (especially begging corporate giveaway-accounts), with no knowledge of the outcome, does not feel too distinct from begging the unknowable, unpredictable, and unbound courts of fairy.
